It's not just about the physical performance.
It’s time to shift our perspective and recognize that mental health is as crucial as physical health.

In my final year as a grad student and basketball player, I know I’ve faced many challenges. With four knee surgeries and a shoulder surgery in my past, it hasn’t been an easy journey. Battling depression and struggling with low confidence during my college basketball career only added to the obstacles I had to overcome. But I’m determined to make this year count.
First and foremost, I’m prioritizing my physical health. I’m working closely with my athletic trainers and medical professionals to make sure I’m in the best possible shape. Mental health is a top priority too. How can I perform or lead the team if my mind is in a bad place?
I’m deeply committed to raising awareness about the critical importance of mental health in athletics. It’s not just about the physical performance; it’s about the holistic well-being of athletes. I want to emphasize to coaches, trainers, and everyone involved in an athlete’s journey that mental health plays a pivotal role in their ability to perform at their best.
Athletes have a responsibility to perform, but it’s essential to understand that their mental state significantly impacts their performance. How can we expect athletes to excel if their mental health isn’t in the right place? It’s time to shift our perspective and recognize that mental health is as crucial as physical health in the world of sports.
